Oldham were crowned Betfred League One Champions on Sunday, as they were presented with the League One Trophy in their final home game of the 2024 season.
Two tries each from captain Jordan Turner and winger Kieran Dixon did the damage in front of over 2600 fans, but it was at the other end that Sean Long's men again impressed, with their seventh nilling of their opposition confirming the best defensive performance from an Oldham side since 1911.
With the title and promotion already secure, Oldham set about completing the job in style and did so with a 28-0 blitz against Workington Town in each half. The Roughyeds will play in the 2025 Betfred Championship competition.
Meanwhile, Rochdale Hornets stunned Keighley Cougars with a confident win on home soil. The Hornets always led throughout, but a superb second half performance would secure a victory against the Cougars - for the first time since 2021.
Rochdale's Myles Harrop scored on the first set of the second half, before Jordan Andrade added another just minutes later. The Cougars did manage to reduce the deficit to eight points, but the hosting halfback Lewis Else came up with an excellent score to put the game firmly out of the visitor's reach.
Boosted by a big win, the Hornets have secured third place heading into the Play-Offs.
North Wales Crusaders then brought the curtain down on their 2024 season with a convincing victory over Cornwall. And on Saturday, Midlands and Hunslet fought in a tight contest as they prepare for the highly anticipated League One Play-Offs, which will be begin on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 September.
